Trace & Fix

Electrical Fault Finding

Electrical faults can be intermittent, difficult to trace and potentially dangerous. Our electricians use systematic diagnostic methods to identify the root cause — not just the symptom — and fix it properly.

Tripping Breakers & RCDs

An RCD or breaker that keeps tripping is protecting you from a fault. We'll systematically test each circuit to identify which appliance or part of the wiring is causing the trip.

Dead Sockets & Lights

Dead sockets and lights can be caused by a blown fuse, a tripped breaker, a loose connection or a wiring fault. We'll trace the issue back to its source.

Flickering Lights

Flickering lights are usually caused by a loose connection somewhere in the circuit — at the fitting, in a junction box or at the consumer unit. Left untreated, loose connections can cause overheating.

Intermittent Faults

Intermittent faults are the hardest to trace — they come and go, making them difficult to reproduce. We use insulation resistance testing and thermal imaging to find hidden faults.

High Electricity Bills

Unexplained increases in electricity consumption can indicate a fault — a stuck immersion heater, a failing appliance or a wiring issue drawing current continuously.

Pre-Purchase Fault Checks

Before buying a property, a fault-finding check alongside an EICR gives you a complete picture of the electrical condition and any issues to negotiate on.

Fault Finding FAQs

How much does electrical fault finding cost?

Fault finding is charged at an hourly rate. We'll give you an estimate based on the symptoms before we start. Simple faults can often be found and fixed in an hour; complex intermittent faults may take longer.

My breaker keeps tripping — what should I do?

Note which breaker is tripping and whether it trips immediately or after a delay. Try unplugging appliances on that circuit one by one to see if one is causing the trip. If it trips with nothing plugged in, you likely have a wiring fault — call us.

Can you find faults in plastered walls?

Yes — we use thermal imaging cameras and insulation resistance testers to locate faults in concealed wiring without unnecessary damage to walls or ceilings.

My RCD trips when it rains — is that normal?

No. This usually indicates a fault in outdoor wiring, an outdoor socket or a luminaire that is allowing water ingress. It needs to be fixed, not ignored.
